Cub Scout Treasures

Nathan really enjoys cub scouts. They do a lot of fun/random things. Bless those leaders! I can't imagine trying to keep ten 8 year old boys engaged for an hour once a week. Yikes! Nathan brought home a project that they lovingly made for us. One that you see it and you are saying..."Wow...that is really...."neat" son....." and then the process begins of trying to find that one "special" place to display this creation. How about here?

Not quite right....(yes that is a mold of his foot, painted like the Italian Flag!! exclamations for how excited he is about that color scheme)
Hmmmm...Not feelin the love here
A little bit better...still not quite right
We're getting "warmer"
Ahhh...Just right. The heavens parted, angels singing....just perfect. Right on top of Nathans dresser so he can look at it every day. The universe is in balance once again.....until the next Cub Scout Treasure comes home.

Whacky Watermelon

The Pinewood derby has come and gone, and we survived it! When the infamous pinewood derby kit was dropped off to our house, I about went into panic mode. I don't know how to carve wood, or be creative. How about put on the wheels, and the axels....yadda yadda. Good thing we have a friend in the ward that cut the wood for us and put on the wheels. I had no idea how involved it is to make a pinewood derby car. The weight should be in the back of the car and if you can rig it to only have 3 wheels touch the ground, you get more speed. I was just happy to get one finished. Some of the parents get pretty competitive. It was funny to watch the dads who made the car for their child. They would be at the end of the track all anxious, and they wouldn't even let their child touch "their" car. They would check the wheels, and lube it with some sort of graphite stuff after each race. I guess the movie "Down and Derby" is true. Who knew? Nathan had a good time though, even though he didn't win 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. He had the idea to make it a watermelon. It won a few races, and it got the award for being the whackiest. Nathan was like, "What does that mean?" It means you rock son...that's what it means! :) Nathan is really enjoying cub scouts. I still can't believe that I have a son old enough to be in cub scouts. Trent vividly remembers his first cut scout pack meeting. He can't believe that he now has a son doing this stuff...are we old enough for that? It was so cute the first day he got all his cub scout uniform on. He was SO excited. We went to the church and waited, and waited and waited. No one showed up. I guess they canceled it and no one bothered to tell us. We had to go get some icecream to "ease the pain". Let the scouting begin!
