Grandma Time

Trents mom is a librarian at an elementary school. She reads books SO well. She knows how to keep a bunch of kids enthralled. The other day Jonathan was just lovin grandma. Because Brenda was in the hospital for two months, Jonathan has been pretty shy around her, but on this day he was climbin all over her and giving her loves and letting her read to him. Now a days, he is just too busy to sit down and listen to a whole book. He just flips to the end and he's done. I miss the days where he would just sit on my lap as I read books and books. No longer my friends. He's just got too many other important things to do these days. So it was so cute that he was wanting Grandma to read to him.

These times with Grandma are important. Just to refresh your memory, Trents mom was diagnosed with Leukemia on Halloween. I KNOW! Scary! We have since found out that in order for her to get a cure she needs to have more chemo AND a bone marrow transplant. A few days later we found out that she is not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant. (shock...silence...) Wow...that is definitely not the news you want to hear. So...she is home now and we are making the most of the time she has left. . We are going to party like it's 1999. (Prince song in case you couldn't figure that one out!) The girls (Sherida, GG and Brenda) are going on a cruise to Mexico next week while Brenda is feeling good. Watch out Mexico...here they come!

I sit and watch her spending time with my boys and it chokes me up. Especially watching Jonathan interact with her and he will not remember her. So...I love catching these moments on tape. They are priceless!

How cool! What a blessing she is spending time with the boys! Doesn't seem real does it?

Bailey was about 18 months when Linda passed away and I can honestly say that he does remember her. He remembers her because we have pictures of her in our home. We have video that we like to watch on special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, & holidays). We talk about her all of the time and we celebrate her birthday and her passing with a special dinner at her favorite place (Olive Garden) every single year. I hate to sound like a Disney movie but it's true what Symba was told about his father in The Lion King...He lives in you. She will live forever in your memories and she will be there. You just won't be able to see her. You will feel of her presence and I promise you that he will remember because I know you will not let him forget. xoxo

Thanks Ammie. I never thought about those things, but it makes sense. Makes me glad that I finally sent those pictures to you a while back that were taken like 6 years ago. :) Your mother in law was such an awesome gal.

Sue, it doesn't seem real most of the time. Probably because she is still healthy. it'll become more real I am sure when she starts getting sick. Hopefully that will be a long time away.

That is awesome that you have these pictures and the memories that go with them.

When my MIL was dying this past year, it was hard for my boys. Kinda scary to see Grandma not really looking like herself, with lots of medical things around her. But the boys have really clung to the memories, the conversations, the songs they sang, the stories she told.

I think you'll be surprised at what they remember - even Jonothan. If you work at keeping her memory alive, he can have her with him forever.

Hugs.

Sorry to hear about Brenda. Can't imagine how difficult it is for everyone. However, she is lucky to have yo to party with - i'm sure you'll be able to keep her entertained. call if you need to vent or if you need to swear outloud- i won't judge -just be prepared to hear some filth and fowl back :) dena
