Each year as I get older and wider....um...I mean wiser...I wonder if "I still got it goin on". There is one thing that I do each summer to make sure that I am still movin and groovin. I figure if I can still do this one activity, I am OK. Those extra pounds that accumulate each year have not hindered my ability to perform. The second that I am not able to accomplish this task...it is time to re-evaluate and figure out what changes I need to make for the coming year...possibly a fat farm admittance. :) What might this task be that could possibly evaluate my whole year and what is to become of my future? Take a looksie and you'll see something profound and life changing in this video. Make sure you are sitting down to take it all in.
Yeah...I still got it going on. If I can still hoist my body up out of the water being pulled by a boat, and actually enjoy it? It is all good. Hand me another brownie for I have proven myself worthy. It doesn't matter that for a week I literally felt as if I shredded every...single...muscle...in my body. But hey....that's what ibuprofen is for right? Bring...it...on!

Matchy Match
So...here is the perfect opportunity to don our Hawaiian apparel. We were feeling so festive in our outfits. As we arrived, people started making comments to us. "Cute...you guys match". "Hey, you guys are matching", "You both have the same Hawaiian print on....cool." "Where'd you find matching outfits?" And so on...and so on...and so on. It was then that I realized that I had turned into one of "those" married couples. Ya know...the ones that wear matching shirts, and outfits? The ones that I swore I would never become. How did this happen without even realizing that it is not cool to be matchy matchy? I guess 15 years of marriage clouds your "coolness"....besides...who cares anyways? As much as I love our outfits, I think we will refrain from wearing them at the same time from now on. :)

Spaaaaaaah Day
I have always "dreamed" about having a spa day. Ya know...where you go and get to hang out at the spa in a white fluffy robe, and the only movement you do is to go to your next spa treatment. Well folks, that dream has come true! As part of our 15 year anniversary celebration, Trent purchased a day at the spa for me. And let me say....it...was...heaven.
I was there for five hours people...man...I sure love my hubbie. I did indeed get a fluffy white robe, and I "endured" a facial, a hot stone massage, lunch (that was to die for) in a gucci leather recliner, and then to finish it off, I had a pedicure complete with my feet being dipped in hot wax. Yeah...can we say absolute heaven? I was so relaxed, that on the drive home I didn't even realize that I was driving 20 mph in a 40mph zone. I happened to look in my rear view mirror and saw the long line of cars behind me. Oops...I sped up, at least what I felt like was speeding up, to a whopping 30 mph. Good thing I lived close to home...I bet some people were feeling some serious road rage. I, on the other hand, felt nothing but goodness in my heart for all mankind. Life was good my friends. That was the best gift I have ever received.

My New Career
While we were driving in the car, Nathan asked me if I could have any career in the world what would it be. I first said, "Being a stay home mom, that's the best job in the world" (What can I say?, I was feeling all warm and fuzzy, the kids were pretty good today)
Nathan then said that the best job for me would be one that is from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. (We joke all the time that I am a day person. Not a night or an early morning person...but a day person. My best hours are from 10:00am -1:00pm...after that it is all down hill...heh heh)
Then he had an idea that he was tickled about. He said, "Mom...I got it...your perfect career would be taking naps!" (that immediately got my undivided attention) "You could be a bed tester and take naps on them" (That's my boy) "And then Jonathan could be a crib tester, and he could nap when you nap"
I never thought I would find a perfect career, but I have to admit, that would pretty much be THE perfect career. Getting to take naps everyday....AND getting paid for doing it. My kid is so stinkin smart. So if you see me in your local home department store, and I am snoozing and drooling all over the bed...don't disturb me...I'm working.

Anniversary The big 1-5
Wow...we have actually been married 15 years today. I don't know why that sounds so.....grown up to have been married that long, but it does. I am officially an old married gal today. Fifteen years?! Wow...that's pretty cool, AND I not only love the guy, but I still really like him too. :) Trent sent me some gorgeous flowers today...daisies...my favorite. Trent teaches at the college on Wednesday nights, so I called my friend Robin and we went out to eat to celebrate my anniversary. Any excuse to go out to eat is gladly welcomed. That call was funny to make,
"Hey Robin...it's my 15 year anniversary tonight...you want to go out to dinner tonight?"
"ummm...don't you want to go out with Trent?" she says
"yeah...but he can't go out tonight...you wanna go celebrate?"
And off we went after the kids were in bed (she has older kids that can come sit at my house and watch tv...the best part is, is that it is FREE!!)
What can I say that has not already been said in my last years Anniversary Post? I am truly blessed to have married such an awesome guy. Here's to another 15 more!

Utah or bust
I...am...outta here! Well at least Jonathan and I are. I am heading to Utah for a family reunion. It should be fun since I haven't seen some of these cousins since I was in middle school. They are hilarious. So...you all hold tight for a week or so and I'll catch ya later!

Care to dust anyone?
My friend was over a while back and we were sitting in the living room talking. She was telling me of this wonderful place that she likes to go. She was describing where it was at, but I just could not wrap my brain around it. I am so geographically challenged. So she leans forward, puts her finger on my coffee table and begins to trace out the directions.....in the layer of dust. As she is talking, I am thinking to myself, "Man...how did there get that much dust on my table? And when is the last time I dusted? A few days?....no...A week? Possibly a couple of weeks? I can not even remember the last time I dusted". She keeps drawing, and drawing a pretty detailed map. I can see it perfectly because my table is dark, and there is so much....dust! Wow...that is embarrassing. She finishes her sketch, and we keep talking as if nothing happened.
After she left, did I immediately go and dust that table? No. I thought about it a lot though...does that count? I did learn a few things though. 1.) I have a cool friend who didn't even bat an eye at the thick layer of dust on the table and 2.) If I know that someone is coming over, just swipe a little cloth over that one table to freshen up the room a little and make it look as if I am the Happy Homemaker. :)

Drama
Every morning on the way out the door to the school bus, Nathan gives us a hug. Well...we lovingly make him give us a hug. As he was giving me his hug he says,
"Now I pause........for dramatic effect"
Huh...I thought I had to have girls to get the "drama". Guess I was wrong. At least we don't have to endure the whole menstrating thing. Phew...dodged that emotional bullet. I barely survived all my sisters. I love having boys.

I am Woman
Sometimes in life I am blown away at the things one can accomplish in a day. Women are amazing at their ability to just get things done. Without women, this world would be lost wouldn't it? With that said, I am proud at what I accomplished. In fact, I am so proud, that I rewarded myself with a nap from the pure exhaustive-ness of it all. What was this task that I accomplished? This picture tells all.
Yes... I am Woman. I changed the wreath on the front of my door. I KNOW!! You are all blown away at my awesome-ness aren't' you? (if you read my post yesterday, you'll know what I'm talking about) Sometimes, it is hard to be humble when I accomplish such amazing things on a daily basis. :)

Ding Dong Doorbell WHAT?
Last night we thought it would be fun to leave a treat at my friends house. She introduced me to a new heavenly treat...Mini Cadberry milk chocolate Eggs. Oh my heavenly goodness! She mentioned how we could buy some and split the bag. I bought the bag a few days ago and continued to eat one every time I passed the bag before I had the chance to give her, her half. Oops...only a few left. So, instead of just giving it to her, we decided to Ding Dong Doorbell Ditch. Nathan was ECSTATIC!! He could hardly contain his excitement at doing such a crazy thing. The poor kid...guess his life is pretty boring. It was great fun as he rang the doorbell, jumped off the rock wall thingie, and into our van as we sped away. Good times. Gooood times.
I have never been very good at those little diddy's like, "What would a woodchuck, chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood" type of things. So in my effort to say Ding Dong Doorbell Ditch in my excited state, I mispoke one of the words.
Let's do a Ding Dong Doorbell B*****. Oops. Big difference between Ditch and B****. :) Dull moments around here? Never!

I'm a Rockstar!
I am a total Rockstar now. For Christmas we as a family got Rockband for the Wii. We figured it was something that we could totally do as a family. And let me tell ya people, it...is...totally...awesome. We are having so much fun with this thing. Trent does the lead vocals, and Nathan and I switch off between drums and guitar. It is taking me a while to get use to playing them, because you don't strum on the exact beat, it is when the colored rectangles move across your screen. That part drives me crazy, and I consider myself somewhat musical, but I have to turn that part of my brain off and not concentrate on strumming exactly to the beat, but strum to the rectangles. It is tricky!
I wait for Nathan to get home from school now so we can have a mini jam session before his homework starts. Nathan loves that part, because he will do absolutely anything to put off doing homework and practicing the piano. My favorite song is Wanted, Dead or Alive. I can rip that up on vocals baby. Nathan will just laugh and shake his head as I am jammin and pullin out my 80's dance moves as I sing. It is some precious family time I tell ya. Jonathan even hits the drums sometimes, or strums the guitar in our session. He wants to be just like us. We are pretty awesome. Rock on!

"Resolute" This baby
Tis the season of the old New Years Resolutions. I frankly forgot about it until I read a friends blog about her new resolution. It's a time to ponder where you are at in your life and where you want to go. Many people find it in their hearts to make a change for the better and resolve to do it. What a beautiful thought. I, on the other hand, think New Years Resolutions S-T-I-N-K. As I look back over my life, every time I make a NYR (new years resolution, in case you couldn't figure that little diddy out) I rarely accomplish it. Most of them are centered around losing weight, because every year I am overweight, and who doesn't want to be able to shop at "normal" stores and get down into the single digits of jeans. Heck, I'd even settle for a 12!
Anyways....does this sound familiar to any of you? About 10 years ago, I made the best NYR that I have ever made in my entire life. In fact, it is SO good that I have been able to meet it every single year. That, in and of itself, is nothing short of a miracle. Wonder what it was? Was it to bring a little bit of joy and happiness to my family and others? Was it to be a better parent? to be slow to get irritated with all the idiot drivers out there? Was it to possibly just share the love as much as possible? Nah. My all time best New Years Resolution was to never make a New Years Resolution again. Yeah. Beautiful ain't it? It was the best NYR I ever made. No more guilt over not ever achieving my NYR, no more wondering what my NYR should be. Just plain no more NYR's. I am perfectly content in my lack of Resolutions. Care to join me anyone? heh heh :)

Older and Wiser?
# 1 song "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul. Never heard of it (Frankly I like the#1 on December 9th. "I am woman!" Yeah...much better. Even the song after my birthday is "You're so Vain". I'd take that one too)
Headlines: U.S.S.R performs Nuclear Test at Eastern Kazakh/Semipalitinsk. I KNEW that the earth shook when I arrived. Thought it was my magnetic personality, or gaseous abilities. heh heh.
It was a good day today. Robin had a breakfast for me with a couple of friends. Bacon, french toast, fruit salad, coffee cake, orange juice, cranberry juice AND for dessert she had her husband make me this absolutely TO DIE FOR chocolate flourless cake. Oh my. I am eating it as I type this. I can literally feel the yummy fat finding its way to my thighs. Bring it on baby! Trent and I went to the mall over the weekend (I am so NOT a mall girl...they drive me crazy. Shopping is of the devil) to buy some new jeans. I have been wearing my fat girl jeans and feeling like a total frump girl (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). We found some cute ones that look good (as good as they can over my "volumptuous" figure) and are a little bit tight. There is a price to pay for lookin good I guess. I think I'll only wear those when we go out on a date or something. Frump girl by day, Trophy Wife by night.
Nathan said to me, "You were born in 1972? That is like so 80's" I guess I need to work on some addition with him. That is his new quote though. All the kids say it around here for anything that is "old" in their eyes. "That is so 80's" Wow...I loved everything about the 80's. I'd take my stretch pants, big sweaters with a huge belt over it, and leg warmers any-day baby! And not to mention my BTH (bangs to heaven). Aqua Net was a staple in my house. Those were the days....

Chapped Lips
Nathan came home from a friends house practically in tears as he explained how much his lips hurt, and how he couldn't keep from licking them. Yes...I could see that just by looking at his red, raw, severly chapped lips. Did I comfort him and give him great words of wisdom? I guess that depends on your oponion. This is what I said:
"Nathan, if you don't stop licking your lips, they are going to end up looking like a Baboons butt."
Yep. That's what I said. Nathan stopped and looked at me and smiled.
I said, "Do you know what a Baboon's butt looks like?"
Nathan, "Yes. Red and wierd."
Me: "Yep. That is exactly what I'm talkin about."
I wonder if this little "golden nugget" of information will be passed on to his children someday when they come crying to him with licked, chapped lips? :) Here's a picture in case you never watch the Discovery Channel. I'm here for you.

B to the third
B B B...what does that mean? We went to Best Buy to buy Brenda her early christmas present...a laptop! Now she can use it while she is in the hospital. Anyways, I was standing there with Jonathan in the shopping cart. Jonathan kept looking over my shoulder and pointing. I figured he was playing peek a boo with someone or something. He kept doing it over and over, so I decided to take a peek at what he was so intrigued with. As I am turning my head around I am startled at what I see. It took a minute to sink in what I was actually looking at. There...on the screen TV, is a big ole picture of my butt. Yes...MY butt. The rest of my body was there also, but, my butt was the main attraction. I happened to be in the path of one of those video cameras that project it to the TV's.
Whoa. One is never fully emotionally prepared to see something like that. I was wearing my form fitting Adidas Running sweatsuit, since I am an avid runner...(ya right!) I know that I am overweight, and I have a picture in my head of what I "thought" I looked like, and boy what I saw was not how I envisioned myself looking. I have heard that the camera adds 10 pounds on, but what about the other 40 or so? How does that factor into the equation? "A picture speaks 1,000 words", Oh yes it does speak, but am I ready to listen and actually do something about it? Huh...I am eating a donut right now...does that answer your question? :) Best Buy Babe, that is what I am.
P.S. We were over eating dinner at the Morgans, when Nathan said, "My mom needs to go on a diet. Really. She needs to go on a diet." I am glad that we are all good friends. I said something like, "I know...please pass some more potatoes..." We all got a good laugh. I had to have a little chat with him about what is nice and not nice to say, he felt bad. It is total payback, because when I was a kid, I said whatever was on my mind to whoever was by me. I mortified my parents with the "honest" observations I shared so lovingly. :)

Troubled Waters
Just wanted to share a little something I just experienced. Picture this. Pitch black. Just got the sick baby back down to sleep. I walk into the bathroom to sit on the throne. Within a few seconds, I realize that my socks (you know how I hate wearing socks, but wear them I must, in case of the huge old hairy spiders. What am I talking about might you ask? Read here if you need a refresher) are progressively getting wetter and wetter. Huh...this can't be good. I jump up off the pot and flick on the light in one fluid Chuck Norris type movement.
After the blindness wears off, I look down on the floor, it is covered in a clearish/brownish type liquid. Oh. My. Word!!!! By this time the bottom of my pajama pants are wet and my socks are soaking wet! I vaguely remembering hearing the toilet make a weird gurgle type splash sound after I used it before I crawled into bed. However, I was reading a book I just got from the library and did not want to peel myself away from it and get up to check it out (Thanks alot Josi! It is your book ,so technically it is your fault? heh heh) I quickly strip the e-coli infested pajama bottoms and socks. And so the midnight cleaning of overflowing crap begins.
As I was bathing Jonathan tonight, I was looking at the bathroom floor and thinking that it could use a good scrubbin. OH boy... it sure received a good scrubbin tonight! (Isn't the saying "Be careful what you "wish" for?....not... "Be careful what you "think" about?) I am happy to report that my bathroom floor is now clean enough to eat off of. Really...come on over. We'll have a picnic on the floor. :) There is nothin quite like the smell of Clorox to ease my mind, and lull me back to sleep.

Let the Fall Season Begin!
I decided it was time to pull out the decorations for the Fall season. (Notice the new blog header? Thanks Arlyn!)
Here are my holiday decorations.
Before:

So many decisions to make...should I put the candles this way

or this way:

Tough decisions.....
Before:

After:

And this year I went the extra mile and added another special touch.

All Done! Phew....that was some serious work! I better go and take a nap. :)
P.S...Nathan came home and said right off, "What's up with the orange candles?" Jonathan woke up from his nap and walked right over to the candles and kept pointing. And then Trent came home and noticed the orange candles too. I told him that I was seriously impressed the he noticed them so quickly. He said, "Honey, our house is not that big, there are not many places to look." Too true!

Stop and Smell the Cucumbers
Nathan informed me today that he would like to start using conditioner on his hair. He wants to start using mine, but I told him that I would go buy some conditioner that would be "just for him". (I am a shampoo and conditioner snob...) I was in Fred Meyer today choosing a conditioner for Nathan. In order to pick out the very best one of the 99 cent Suave, I had to do my sniff test. I smell everything before I buy, soaps, deodorants, detergents, shampoo's....etc. With these sorts of products, you have to squeeze the bottle a couple of times....gently... so you can get a whiff. I had the Suave Cucumber and Melon conditioner in my hand...I did my patented squeeze and sniff...when all of a sudden...the bottle made some sort of fart noise and shot conditioner right up my nose. It scared me, so at the same time I sniffed as it shot out, so not only did it go clear up my nose, some of it went down my throat. That was a new experience. I have never actually tasted conditioner before.
Huh...now what? (as conditioner is literally dripping out of my nose)....good thing I packed a spare outfit for Jonathan in the diaper bag. I grabbed that and started wiping out my nose....and blowing...and picking....I got a couple of weird looks as people passed by. I didn't think anything of it until I got home. I am sure they were thinking..."Get a tissue for cryin out loud!"...I really looked like I was diggin for gold today. I just gave them the head nod as I had my finger wrapped in the outfit and shoved up my nose. Perfectly normal.
On the positive side, after I got it all cleaned up, with each breath I took, I was smelling cucumber and melon all day today. Maybe I have stumbled across something? It was actually kind of pleasant....Who knew? Just tryin to look on the bright side. :)
